Understanding the Basics of Ortho Appliances

Orthodontic appliances have been a major game changer in the dentistry industry, ensuring patients’ smiles are always improved. As such, these ortho appliances aim at correcting dental misalignments and improving the overall oral health of patients, as discussed in the video. Therefore, you must understand some of the basics behind these ortho appliances.

To begin with, ortho appliances fall into two major categories, namely; fixed and detachable. For fixed appliances, we have specifics like braces which are attached to the teeth for a given duration of time and can only be removed by a dentist. On the other hand, detachable appliances like aligners, are usually worn on occasion and can be removed by the patient when eating, flossing or brushing. Overall, fixed and detachable ortho appliances serve one aim; to gradually move a patient’s teeth into their natural positions.

Moreover, the main objective of ortho appliances is to continually guide a patient’s teeth and jaws into their proper positions by applying regulated forces on them. As a result, these gradual tensions in both the teeth and jaw cause the bone tissues to restructure, allowing the teeth to align. Again, when a patient has ortho appliances installed for them, especially fixed appliances, they should visit their dentist frequently. This way, the dentist can monitor the appliances and make the necessary adjustments. For instance, the dentist can loosen or tighten the braces accordingly.

Lastly, achieving a perfect smile is something you should look forward to. This is because it is the first thing everyone sees. As such, you should understand the basics of these ortho appliances to ensure you make an informed decision, whenever you decide to get any of them installed for you.
