If you are considering having cosmetic dental work done because you have missing teeth, you may want to look into dental implants. Dental implants are a restorative dental treatment that are considerably different than dentures.

Dentures have been the go-to tooth replacement method, especially for the elderly, over the last several decades. These are prosthetic teeth that are molded and manufactured to fit a patient’s gums. They are typically fastened to the gums using an adhesive, and should be taken out at night.

But this dental solution is fast being replaced by both mini implants and full dental implants. The reason for this is that dental implants are much more effective, and less of a hassle. While they do require surgery, patients elect implants because these teeth can last a lifetime with proper care.

When city implant dentists begin the surgery, they drill a titanium rod into the jawbone in place of a missing tooth. This rod acts as an artificial tooth root. Then, the new tooth is attached to the implant using an abutment, or connector. As a patient heals over the next couple of months, the jaw seals the implant into place.

Cosmetic dentistry costs are often an issue for patients, though. Veneers, thin sheets of porcelain that adhere to the surface of teeth to cover damage, can set patients back at least a $1,000, if not more. Dental implants are even more expensive, ringing in at about $4,000 per tooth, making an entire mouth if implants as pricey as a luxury car. Insurance typically doesn’t cover implants either, because it is a cosmetic procedure and not a necessity.

Even still, by 2018, the market for implants is expected to reach $5 billion, and there are ways around the hefty price tag. Patients can try to find a city implant dentist that is willing to set up a payment plan, and even apply for online grants that fund cosmetic dentistry.

But restoring a natural looking smile is of utmost importance to some patients, and this means that the money will be worth it. It will ultimately be your decision.
